How Care at Journey to Wellness Within Is Different
After more than 15 years in primary care, I’ve seen that people heal best when care is relationship-based not transactional.
At Journey to Wellness Within, this means:
Time to listen, evaluate, and educate
Care plans that evolve as your body and life change
Root-cause, evidence-informed integrative medicine
You as an active partner in your health, not a protocol
My role is not to tell you what to do, but to help you understand your options so you can make informed decisions. We intentionally work with a limited number of clients to ensure every visit is attentive, thoughtful, and collaborative. This allows us to provide care that is both structured and flexible, meeting you where you are while supporting meaningful progress.
About Katie Seremet, FNP
Integrative Family Nurse Practitioner in Maple Grove, MN
Hi, I’m Katie Seremet. I’m a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with nearly 20 years of clinical experience, and I provide integrative, relationship-based care for individuals and families who want thoughtful, personalized support for long-term health.
I believe healthcare should feel calm, collaborative, and steady. Not rushed. Not transactional. My role is to help you understand what’s happening in your body, make sense of complex information, and move forward with clarity and confidence.
How My Personal Health Journey Shaped My Practice
My approach to medicine wasn’t shaped by training alone. It was shaped by navigating real, complex health decisions in my own life.
Shortly after having my first child, I learned that I carry the BRCA gene. The guidance I received focused almost entirely on risk-reduction surgery. While that information was important, it felt incomplete. There was little discussion about how to support my body, nervous system, or mental well-being during the years of uncertainty and decision-making before I was ready for surgery.
During a later pregnancy, I experienced a stroke. Further evaluation revealed that I also carry the APOE4 gene. Again, the message was similar. There were limited strategies to prevent another event, but effective medications would be available if and when something happened.
I struggled with the idea that my only options were to wait for something serious to occur or live in a constant state of fear. That framework didn’t align with how I understood health, healing, or resilience. I also wasn’t ready to pursue risk-reducing surgery yet, as I hoped to have more children.
So I chose to look deeper.
I immersed myself in research focused on how to support the body as a whole while living with genetic risk. I studied metabolic health, neurological resilience, hormone balance, stress physiology, and nervous system regulation. I explored how lifestyle, nutrition, movement, sleep, emotional processing, and meaning influence long-term health outcomes.
As a self described type-A perfectionist with a lot of energy on top of a double Pisces and a deep sensitivity to the world around me, I learned quickly that there is no checklist, diet, or supplement that guarantees health. The traits that helped me succeed were also the ones that depleted me. The most important work was learning to slow down, change my pace, and create a sense of safety and balance within my nervous system.
This approach allowed me to support myself thoughtfully and intentionally, both before I was ready for surgery and afterward. It helped me move out of fear and into agency, where health was no longer about waiting for the next crisis or feeling like a ticking time bomb.
These experiences reshaped how I practice medicine. They reinforced what I often tell patients: we can’t change our genetics, but we can influence how our bodies respond over time. Or as I often say, genes load the gun, but they don’t pull the trigger. Most importantly, they taught me that meaningful health isn’t just about reducing risk. It’s about living fully, grounded, and connected along the way.
Why This Matters
My journey taught me that health is never just about lab results or risk profiles. It’s about the whole person.
Living with genetic risk and navigating serious health events showed me how quickly people can feel overwhelmed, fearful, or out of control. It also showed me that with thoughtful guidance, evidence-informed strategies, and attention to both physical and emotional well-being, it’s possible to live a full, empowered life while managing risk.
This is the foundation of my practice. I help patients:
Understand their health picture without fear or overwhelm
Make informed decisions that align with their values and long-term goals
Support their bodies in ways that complement modern medicine
Build resilience so health feels like a resource, not a source of anxiety
In short, I help patients live fully, not just manage risk.
How I Approach Whole-Person Care
I blend evidence-based medicine with integrative, nervous system–informed strategies to support balance, resilience, and long-term well-being.
Many patients come to me feeling unheard, overwhelmed, or unsure of what their next step should be. My goal is to create space for clarity. I take the time to listen, understand your history, and help you make sense of complex information so you can make choices that feel grounded and aligned.
I have a special interest in supporting individuals with hereditary or genetic risk factors, including increased cancer or neurological risk, who want to optimize their health or balance hormones without living in constant fear. I also enjoy working with people who are engaged in deeper inner work and are curious about how nonordinary states of consciousness, spirituality, and the interconnected layers of mind, body, and psyche influence how they feel and function. Many patients tell me they appreciate that they can speak openly and honestly with me, without worrying that something will feel “too much, too weird” or dismissed. I deeply value collaboration and regularly work alongside therapists and mental health providers to offer truly multidisciplinary care. When appropriate, I also provide medical evaluations for ketamine-assisted therapy as part of an integrative, whole-person care plan.
Above all, my goal is for you to feel supported, safe, steady, and confident as you navigate your health.
